If you’ve been paying for insurance you didn't know about need or could never claim on, such as PPI payment protection insurance. That money may be reclaimable.
In the UK when you get a loan, credit card card, store card or unsecured loan, your lending may be offered to you as“Fully Protected”.
This " fully protected" term mean the product includes the an insurance plan brings with it a small addition to your total payments. In the unlikely event that you are unable to pay off your debts or regular premiums, this additional cost helps cover due payments.
If you were told that the PPI polict was mandatory you may be able to reclaim your PPI policy premium back and get compensation.
In such a case, you must inform the institution in question that should they fail to refund your money, you would have to address your issues to the financial ombudsman (FOS)
Given below is the recommended format for an example PPI claim letter.
Dear Sir
Account Number:
Subject: Letter of Complaint
This is regarding the PPI policy which was mis-sold to me on (date) by (agent). I have been treated in an unfair manner and wish to reclaim my policy and be compensated for it.
The reason I see my treatment as unfair is because:
- (Reason 1)
- (Reason 2)
- (Reason 3 etc.)
Without any proof that the policy sold to me was reasonable and fair, I demand a full refund of the Premium and any subsequent charges on it that I have paid. An amount of 8% interest is also expected to be added to each payment.
I await your prompt and positive response.
If this letter is not responded to within eight weeks I shall be contacting the Financial Ombudsman to look into the complaint.
Yours Faithfully
