Once a Debt Relief Order has been made, the debts enter into a Moratorium period, usually lasting 12 months. Interest and charges can still be applied to those debts during that time. A Debt Relief Order does not mean that interest and charges will be frozen.
If during the Moratorium period, the client’s circumstances change, and the Debt Relief Order ends up being revoked, perhaps because the client’s surplus is now greater than £50 per month, the Creditors are able to pursue the client for the debt again and any interest and charges added will become due.
If the client completes the 12 month Moratorium period and circumstances have remained the same, any interest and charges which had been added to the debts, will be wiped off.
